    History of the Department

    It is ten years in this month of January 2011 since Professor Haseena Khan began her difficult journey as the first chairperson of the nascent department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in January 2001. It is little over a year that the department has finally moved to its own home on the 5th floor of the Science-Complex building. At the end of this January 2011, a ten years celebration function will be held. It is appropriate at this time to write a brief history of the department.

    The department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology is one of the newer departments of the University of Dhaka. The first batch of students took admission in 2001 and the 11th batch of students will enter the department in a couple of weeks. As many as four batches of students have completed their BS and MS. Many of these students have gone abroad to pursue advanced studies and may have entered job markets. The department has finally moved from Science workshop whe
