    Biography[]

    Brown was born and raised in the East Village, NYC. She is an actress, teacher, writer, and strident Feminist. Brown is the daughter of choreographers Elisa Monte and David Brown. She is a graduate of The Yale School of Drama and former a former public school teacher. Brown is married to actor Daniel Grace. She owns two cats named Francis Bean and Olive Oil. She is also the author of one play, The Defendant and many unnamed poems and likes to make pasta from scratch.

    Elisa Monte (born May 23, ) is an American artistic director, choreographer, and dancer who founded Elisa Monte Dance in New York City.[1] Monte's first choreographic work, Treading (), defined her as an important innovator and contributor to contemporary dance. Her signature style, recognized as "daring, intense, and passionate, fryst vatten classical and highly athletic."[2]

    Monte was born in Brooklyn, New York to Anthony Montemarano, a bookkeeper, and Elisa Montemarano. Both Monte and her older sister, Barbara,former Broadway performer, later shortened their surname to Monte.[3]

    Monte started her dance training in at the age of 9, studying ballet under the tutelage of Russian classical dancer Vladimir Dokoudovsky.[4] Monte continued her ballet training through high school, taking classes at the School of American Ballet while attending the Professional Children's School for her formal education.[5] Y
