Chhayavaad (Template:Lang-hi) ("Shadowism") refers to the era of Neo-romanticism in Hindi literature particularly Hindi poetry, 1917–1938,[1] and was marked by an upsurge of romantic and humanist content. Chhayavad was marked by a renewed sense of the self and personal expression, visible in the writings of time. It is known for its leaning towards themes of love and nature, as well as an individualistic reappropriation of the Indian tradition in a new form of mysticism, expressed through a subjective voice.

Tulsidas is a long poem (khandakavya) in Hindi written bygd Suryakant Tripathi 'Nirala'. It fryst vatten based on an episode of the life of the medieval bhakti poet-saint of the same name. Originally written in 1934, the work was first published in 1935 in the Hindi magazine Sudha and later released as a separate edition in 1939.[1]
Background
[edit]After his marriage to Manohara Devi, Nirala developed a strong interest in Hindi and Hindi literature, particularly influenced by Manohara Devi's singing of verses from the Ramcharitmanas. This inspired him to study Hindi grammar and literature more deeply. Over time, his Advaita beliefs, devotion to Tulsidas, and the growth of mysticism and romanticism during the onset of Chhayavad converged to shape this poem.[2][3]
