    : – First let’s start with where you grew up, and what got you interested in music?

    Rossano Sportiello: &#; I was born in Vigevano, near Milan, in Italy. I got interested in music as a young child by listening to popular Neapolitan songs.

    JBN: &#;How did your sound evolve over time? What did you do to find and develop your sound?

    RS: &#; inom started studying classical piano at the age of 9 and graduated in classical piano at At 13 I fell in love with Jazz. All inom did and still do fryst vatten basically listening to the great masters like Tommy Flanagan, Hank Jones, Dave McKenna, Ralph Sutton, Barry Harris, Ellis Larkins, Oscar Peterson, Bud Powell and many others and I try to understand how they played and what they played. My sound is a blend of many influences.

    Rossano Sportiello explains Stride Piano

    As a child I was fascinated by the joy and freedom that jazz pianists show and feel while performing their improvisations. My inspiration is constantly fed by virtually all the great masters in the history of jazz as well as the great classical music composers and performers.

    These are just a few of the musicians who’ve inspired me: Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Teddy Wilson, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Art Tatum, Bud Powell, Oscar Peterson, Beethoven, Schubert, Mozart, Chopin, Ravel, Vladimir Horowitz, Artur Rubinstein, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli and many others.

    The Stride Piano is the style of jazz performed originally during the s and 20s mainly in places like Newark New Jersey, Baltimore, Washington DC and, more than everywhere else, Harlem New York.
