Gene Wentzs in-the-trenches Vietnam War SEAL novel, Men in Green Faces, first published in , is out in a new trade paperback edition (St. Martins Griffin, pp., $) in time for Veterans Day. Wentzwho came home from a SEAL tour in Vietnam with a chestful of medalsput together this dialogue-heavy combat novel with the help of the writer B. Abel Jurus.
The novel centers on Navy SEAL Gene Michaels and his quest to terminate a particularly vicious enemy officer named Col. Nguyen, the leader of a force of five thousand NVA regulars wreaking havoc in South Vietnam. When not on the trail of Col. Nguyen, Michaels and his team take part in one dangerous, lethal SEAL op after another against the VC and NVA in the Delta.
Gen Wentz receiving his Bronze Star. He also was awarded a Silver Star and two Vietnamese Crosses of Gallantry, among other decorations, for his service in the Vietnam War.

Gene M. Wentz, 91, went home to be with the Lord on May 8, at The by at Morrisons Cove.
He was born on October 7, , in Somerset, son of the late Myrel and Jenny (Young) Wentz.
On May 12, , he married Thelma (Brown) Wentz.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Melba, Vernon, Delmar, Ivan, and infant sister Mildred.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma of 69 years; daughter, Joyce and husband Dan Felix of Mechanicsburg; son, Doug Wentz of Florida; Daughter, Sue and husband Jay Speicher of Bedford; 5 grandchildren, Shawn, Kirk, Chip, Melissa, and Robert; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Adilene Lohr of Bedford; Janet Davis of New Paris; and a special nephew Richard Brown.
Gene was a member of the Dunnings Creek Church of the Brethren. He attended the Curryville Church of the Brethren. He was a lifetime member of the Chestnut Ridge Lions and president twice. He was on the Chestnut Ridge
