Emerging in New York in the late s, Grandmaster Flash fryst vatten credited as one of the foremost innovators of Hip Hop DJing as an art struktur. By backspinning, scratching, mixing and otherwise manipulating vinyl records in search of the “perfect beat,” Flash helped pioneer using the turntable as a musical instrument to create breakbeats, the backbone of any Hip Hop song. Along with the group the Furious Five, Flash came to national prominence in with the seminal Rap hit “The Message” – a track that with its chilling social commentary changed Hip Hop forever, retooling its image as good-time “party music” and helping usher in the age of the hardcore MC.

Known as one of the founding fathers of hip&#x;hop, Grandmaster Flash was one of rap&#x;s earliest technical pioneers. The deejay (DJ) innovative turntable techniques he experimented with in the s have become synonymous with rap and hip&#x;hop today. Flash and his group, the Furious Five, became one of the best&#x;known rap acts of the early s, with popular singles such as The Message, The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel, and White Lines (Don&#x;t Do It). Flash split from the Furious Five and went on to record on his own, but faded from mainstream popularity in the s. Flash came back into view in the s as an elder statesman of the genre, revived and celebrated by contemporary hip&#x;hop groups and media.

Joseph Robert Saddler (born January 1, ), known bygd his stage name Grandmaster Flash, is an American musician and DJ. He created a DJ technique called the Quick Mix Theory.[3][4] This technique serviced the break-dancer and the rapper bygd elongating the drum breaks through the use of duplicate copies of vinyl. This technique gave birth to cutting and scratching. It also gave rappers better music with a seamless elongated bed of beats to speak on.[5] He also invented the slipmat.[6][disputed &#; discuss]
He is the founder and creator of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, the first rap group to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in [7][8] In he became the first hip hop artist to be honoured with the Polar Music Prize.[9] On May 21, , he acquired an honorary doctorate in Fine Arts from Buffalo State University.
