    Maoists kidnap district collector in Chhattisgarh

    Chhattisgarh: Collector orders inquiry, Congress asks for home minister's removal

    RAIPUR: The political storm over Chhattisgarh home minister’s son abusing official power to coerce tribal farmers into selling land for a private power company continues a week after TOI reported the case.
    A delegation of Congress leaders met governor Shekhar Dutt on Thursday and asked for the home minister’s removal.
    On June 23, TOI reported that home minister Nankiram Kanwar’s son Sandeep Kanwar cheated tribal farmers in Janjgir Champa district, buying their land at cheap rates for a power project being set up by Videocon.Appointed as a public relations officer by the company, Sandeep Kanwar travelled in a red beacon car with a BJP symbol, blurring the lines between government and corporate purchase of farmland.
    Following TOI’s report, the district collector of Janjgir Champa has initiated an inquiry and issued notices to Sandeep Kanwar, Videocon, village heads and revenue department officials.
